Typical Scenario

  • An organization decides that it needs “communication skills” training for its workforce. 

  • In the process of learning more about the intended audience, we uncover a culture of ineffective communication throughout the organization, often modeled from the top down.

  • Recognizing that there are basic communication skills that can be learned and applied by everyone, the discussion turns to the unique aspects of communication based on organizational roles.

  • A customized communication strategy is developed that becomes an integrated component in the organization’s training, development and performance management processes.


Methods and Deliverables

  • Performance analysis: what are the broad communication requirements of the role(s)?

  • Gap analysis: what is the current level of communication by role and what could or should it be (e.g. how do we communicate a coherent message to our customers from pre-sales through on-site support?)

  • Customized approaches to improving communication skills using the most appropriate delivery methods (e.g. classroom training, individual/group coaching, web conference, etc.)

  • Deliverables include: 

    • Customized assessment data, including gap analysis descriptions

    • Multi-media training approaches (e.g. video recording for presentation skill development)

    • Participant guides (for training sessions)

    • Customized employee-developed presentations

    • Role-based job aids for preparing and delivering effective communication 

    • Individualized development plans for one-on-one coaching engagements

    • Program effectiveness evaluation (optional)
